Pornography is notoriously under- and overrated, morally condemned and deemed as sexually empowering, savior and corruptor at the same time.

It also is an inventive force which pushed forward the development of technological solutions and communication systems. With the dawn of the internet, porn reached its inventive peak. Pushed into the illegal corners of society, the industry pioneered ways to get its content to paying users, always on the bleeding-edge of the next trend to come. 

Not only is the “Internet for Porn”, the sex industry helped the WWW develop, rise and finally fell victim to its structure based on searchable key words and benefitting from free tube-sites. Join me for a tale about sex, technology and reinvention.

Lisa Andergassen is an academic researcher, freelance writer, translator and lecturer at various universities in Germany and Austria. She studied film and media studies and photography in Vienna and Potsdam. Her publishing activities include articles on photography and film theory and porn-specific issues and she co-edited the anthology “Explizit! New perspectives on pornography and society ”(Bertz + Fischer Verlag, 2013, together with Till Claassen, Katja Grawinkel, Anika Meier). Currently, she is working on her doctorate on the “Figure of the Self-Objectifying Woman. Pornography and Feminist Theory.”
