שבע בשנקר: Contemporary prehistoric stone tool design | מרצה: דב גנשרוא

The iconic hand axe is a teardrop-shaped prehistoric stone tool that has been worked from reverse sides into a typically and progressively symmetrical form. It's probably the most popular tool ever, with a span of over 1.4 million years of use and found across several continents including Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America.

The stone tool's perplexing presence within the archaeological record has led to several radical theories explaining its longevity; theories encompassing the notion of our predisposition for creating this form, the role aesthetic preferences played in our evolution and the hand-axe as a courtship object. As a utility tool it most likely functioned as a multi-tool for chopping, pounding, cutting, and stabbing. 

The talk will detail a decade of speculative design projects exploring our relationship with lithics and making technologies from a very personal questioning of identity resting between nature and nurture.

במשך שנים רבות היה שותף עם פרופ' עמי דרך (1963-2012) בסטודיו עמידב. הסטודיו השאיר חותם על שדה העיצוב המקומי ופעל במספר תחומים במקביל: פיתוח רעיונות ואובייקטים אישיים וניסיוניים לצד עבודה עם התעשייה בעיצוב ופיתוח מכשירים רפואיים, עיצוב תערוכות מוזיאליות, מוצרי צריכה, גופי תאורה וריהוט. עבודותיהם הוצגו בגלריות ומוזיאונים רבים בארץ ובעולם וכמו כן נמצאות באוספים מוזיאלים.
