Freemover Studies at Shenkar
Comprehensive Guide for International Students
Shenkar offers international students the opportunity to study for one or two semesters as freemovers. This option allows students to join courses as visiting students, independently of a formal exchange agreement.
This guide clarifies the requirements, application process, and procedures related to the freemover track, which is separate and distinct from the student exchange track.
Freemover Studies, 1–2 Semesters
A freemover is a visiting student who independently enrolls at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art for one or two semesters, outside of an official student exchange program.
This option is intended for students who wish to study abroad at Shenkar independently rather than through a partner institution. As freemovers are not part of Shenkar’s exchange agreements, they are required to pay tuition and applicable fees directly to Shenkar.
Status and Duration
Freemover students may be admitted for one or two semesters.
At the end of the study period, students receive an official Transcript of Records.
Application Process
There is currently no online application system for freemovers. The process is handled directly through the Shenkar International Center.
Applicants are required to submit:
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Portfolio, where relevant
• Academic transcript, if available
• Short motivation letter
Applications are reviewed by the relevant academic department, and admission is subject to departmental approval and course availability.
Tuition and Fees
Freemover students are required to pay tuition and applicable fees. Tuition is calculated according to the number of academic credit points for which the student is registered, in accordance with the rates set by the Council for Higher Education.
In addition, students are required to pay a one-time fee of 500 NIS for security and administrative costs, as well as any applicable course material fees.
Students who are not Israeli citizens are charged at 125% of the standard tuition rate.
Current tuition rates:
• Israeli citizens: 300 NIS per Shenkar academic credit point
• Non-Israeli citizens: 375.5 NIS per Shenkar academic credit point
Additional fees:
• One-time student fee of 500 NIS, paid once regardless of whether the student studies for one or two semesters
• Additional material fees may apply for workshops and studio courses, depending on the selected courses
Course Options
Freemover students may choose from two types of courses:
• EMI courses (English Medium Instruction), courses that are fully taught in English
• EF courses (English Friendly), courses that are taught in Hebrew but are accessible to English-speaking students, especially in practical, workshop-based, or studio-based formats
Final course offerings vary each semester and are shared closer to the beginning of the study period.
Language
No Hebrew proficiency is required for freemover studies. Students can build a study plan based on EMI courses and suitable EF courses.
Credit Transfer and Recognition
Credit conversion:
1 Shenkar credit point equals 2 ECTS.
The number of credit points assigned to each course reflects the number of weekly academic hours spent in class or online. This credit point system does not include time spent on assignments or independent study.
At the end of the semester, Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art issues an official Transcript of Records.
Credits completed at Shenkar as a freemover student may later be considered for recognition if the student applies and is accepted to a full degree program at Shenkar, subject to departmental evaluation and approval.

Important Distinction
Studying as a freemover is not equivalent to being admitted to a full degree program.
Students who wish to complete a full degree at Shenkar must apply through the official admissions process and not through the International Center.
