Welcome to Shenkar! All the hard work has paid off! We can’t promise you that the coming years will be easy, but we have no doubt that it will be worth the effort and that the experience ahead of you will be a memorable one!
To help you find your way around, we have prepared a useful guide for life on campus.
Useful info:
- Where can you find us? Shenkar is located in three central buildings in Ramat Gan (all within a short walking distance of each other): the Mitchell Building at 8 Yeda Am St., the Pernick Building at 12 Anne Frank St. and the Elite Building at 8 Jabotinsky St. For academic department and administrative unit locations, a map, and bus route details, click here!
- Need financial assistance? The Scholarships and Student Welfare Division, within the framework of the Dean of Students, provides annual scholarships, awards of excellence, and various solutions to address financial difficulties.
Are my rights protected? The Student Rights Law ensures the right to access to higher education and equal opportunities and guarantees basic rights of freedom of expression, unionizing and admission to studies, as well as the rights of students serving in the reserves. The Student Union, which consists of departmental representatives elected annually, is the go-to place for any matter requiring assistance and help within the college. It is also responsible for a wealth of events and benefits for students throughout the year.
- And what about the small print? Reading guidelines may sound like a speedy way to put yourself to sleep, but we definitely recommend that you familiarize yourself with the rules of conduct and discipline, Academic Regulations, tuition guidelines and sexual harassment policy. It is also important to be informed and familiarize yourself with the departmental guidelines. Trust us, it will help you!
- Is it time for vacation yet? The academic calendar keeps you up to date with the semester start/end dates, vacations, ceremonies and events.
- What if, at the end of the day, I want to continue learning from home? Shenkar’s online information systems allow remote access to the academic content of the courses you are participating in, as well as a variety of databases, the library catalog and loan extensions of books you’ve checked out. All the details are here!
- Were you called up for reserve duty? The reserve duty coordinator will assist you in submitting a reserve duty postponement request (Reserve Duty Coordination Committee) and exercising your rights when you return to school.
- Haven’t found a solution to your problem? If you have consulted the relevant parties (your department secretary, academic coordinator, department head, laboratory manager, etc.) and have not received sufficient assistance or an adequate resolution to the problem, you can contact the Dean of Students for help.
- Do you have physical or learning disabilities? Are you a new immigrant? Is your mother tongue not Hebrew? The HILA team (the Student Advancement Center) offers individualized assistance, support and a range of options and tools to achieve your full potential.
- Having a hard time coping? The Psychological Counseling Center offers individual or group professional help to improve quality of life and functioning, with full discretion and at an accessible rate.
Struggling with school? Here you will find assistance, support…
- If I wanted to saw or sculpt — where and how? A variety of professional, well-equipped workshops are open to students from all departments (design, art and engineering) throughout the campus, where you can be creative and learn new techniques. On the workshops page, you will find details about the training required before beginning.
- Want to help out and contribute? The Shenkar Community Outreach Unit facilitates social action initiatives with different communities, some in return for scholarships. Click for details!
- Where can I buy school supplies? You can find the “Ventura” supplies and equipment shop — a name you will come to know very well — behind the Department of Interior, Building and Environment Design (12 Anne Frank St.), with another branch located on the ground floor of the Department of Multidisciplinary Art building (8 Jabotinsky St., Ramat Gan). Looking for bargains? Join the Facebook page to buy and sell second-hand equipment at Shenkar.
- What about food? In the master’s degree complex, near the Mitchell Building (12 Anne Frank), the main cafeteria “Karnaf” offers refreshments at reasonable prices. A short walk away — along Tuval Street — you will find a rich variety of dining options for any budget.
How do you know what’s going on at Shenkar? Throughout the year, countless events, exhibitions and lectures are held in various fields, where students and alumni are awarded prizes, present their work and develop outstanding projects.
