Calligraphy Workshop with Artist Sami Qaq

In June 2026, East Jerusalem artist and designer Sami Qak held an Arabic calligraphy workshop at Shenkar. The workshop was part of the course “Unity in Plurality: A General Introduction to Islamic Art (622–1900)”, led by Dr. Arie Lev Kapitaikin. This long-standing course is offered by the History and Philosophy of Art, Design, and Technology Unit and is part of Shenkar’s EMI course program. Sami is a freelance graphic designer, Arabic calligraphy artist, and lecturer in visual communication who conducts workshops at leading cultural and academic institutions. His work uniquely bridges artistic writing and contemporary design. Supported by the Shenkar International Center, the workshop offered students a hands-on experience with traditional quill writing, exploring the infinite geometric forms of Arabic script.
