On Thursday 15.5.22, Space Shenkar – a body promoting the creation and development of space projects at Shenkar – presented a collection of works from Shenkar graduates and professors at the SpaceTech Summit.
This summit is all about developments and opportunities in the international and Israeli space (civil aerospace) industry.
At the summit, top tech companies and academics presented space creation and development opportunities. The summit concerned the future of Israel as a space tech revolutionary.
The summit focused on next-generation technologies in space research; the private/civil space revolution; Israel’s place in Industry 5.0 – a new development paradigm that espouses placing the industry’s employees (as opposed to machines and AI) at the center of the production process; and the technologies and initiatives that will turn Israel from a startup nation to a space nation.
Projects featured at the summit:
Bar Brantz, a graduate of the Department of Industrial Design and coordinator of Space Shenkar, presented her graduate project at the summit. The project concerns space tourism and was developed in the Department of Industrial Design. Supervisor: Gilad Davidi

- ISR 72 is a tourist space station that orbits the Earth and is located outside its atmosphere. The space station, which operates in microgravity conditions, provides guests a unique floating experience. The heart of the project touches on the experience of someone in a foreign place and focuses on the tourist’s personal space and experience of sleeping in space. It explores combining the new and the familiar, a sense of home in relation to the future, and creating a new language.

- Space Hands is a speculative project about the planning and design of robots designated to help establish moon bases (for operations in the near future, such as NASA’s Artemis Program). The robots will serve as modular tools which interface with one another and work as a team alongside the astronauts.

“Ra’anan Colony” – a project by Hadar Hen, a fourth-year student in the Department of Visual Communication. Supervisors: Ami Sheetrit and Lahav Halevy

- “Ra’anan Colony” was developed in the framework of the Department of Visual Communication’s “Floating Laboratory” course. This course was run in collaboration with the Ramon Foundation and the Rakia Mission. In it, students were asked to choose one experiment to develop and send to space. Hadar chose to address the question of living on Mars, and her project was inspired by the Rakia Mission’s Martian Agriculture eXperiment (MAX). “Ra’anan Colony” presents a scenario for the first Israeli agricultural colony on Mars in 2046. The project uses a combination of illustrations, sketches of what is happening on the colony, and textual information to present the colony’s story, agricultural products, and purpose..

Beresheet Spaceship
Space Shenkar was established out of the belief and understanding that by combining Engineering. Design. Art. under a single heading – “Space” – we can generate a whole world of opportunities, creation, and development. The channel was established by Bar Brantz and Daniel Altman, director of ACT Shenkar, as part of the Center for Innovation ACT Shenkar.
