Academic and teaching excellence
The Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar prides itself on its high academic level. We hold ourselves to a very high standard when it comes to teaching and research. Success requires excellence, and the bar is high. Our curriculum helps students meet that bar. We make sure to keep up with rapidly advancing technology, analytics and social standards. Our top-notch teaching and research staff are able to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Moreover, we make sure to keep up with new advancements in pedagogic theory and develop new teaching methods to keep our department ahead of the curve.
The professional reason
Shenkar’s software engineering program includes mathematics and physics courses, theoretical courses in computer science and hands-on courses in software engineering. In the third and fourth years, students choose their specializations. We offer unique specialization tracks that meet some of Israel’s highest professional standards.
This includes five courses in data science, web and cloud (full-stack), cybersecurity engineering and game engineering. We also offer courses, workshops, research, and defense and intelligence projects.
Toward the end of their studies, in addition to their core courses and specializations, our students team up to work on their graduate projects. The projects take one year and two months to complete. The Software Engineering Department’s graduate projects are known for their impressive scope and depth. At the end of their studies, our students are awarded a bachelor’s degree in software engineering, the right to have their names added to Israel’s Register of Engineers and Architects, a certificate for completing their specialization, and, in some cases, a certificate for completing their graduate project with honors. Our students start working in the industry even before graduation. By the time they complete their studies, many already have a rich portfolio that positions them as true professionals.
Creativity and entrepreneurship: become a tech talent
Shenkar is not like other schools. Our unique combination of engineering and design enables us to offer our students more options and opportunities than other colleges and universities. Apple founder Steve Jobs proved again and again that truly great success requires more than cutting-edge technology. User-experience is key, and consumers have now learned to expect it from products.
The software products our students create and present in class critique sessions, conferences and competitions prove Shenkar’s unique advantage in teaching entrepreneurship skills, creative thinking and product design. Our students are introduced to the world of startups and creative fields from their first year at Shenkar. In their second year, the students create specifications and develop unique and original software solutions that touch on topics of their choice, including sustainability, big data and even social justice issues. In their third and fourth years, students enroll in courses on entrepreneurship, innovation, interactive systems and more.
Our software engineering students also gain experience with presenting their projects professionally on stage and talking to the press about their work.

Each year, 90% of our department’s alumni (as well as some students in their third and fourth years) find employment with big-name software companies, factories, and international tech giants. Shenkar’s Department of Software Engineering has 11 faculty members and dozens of experienced lecturers, each of them a leading professional in their field. Here at the Department of Software Engineering, we believe in getting to know our students and treating them with respect. We make sure our students receive personal attention.
Shenkar’s Department of Software Engineering is unique and prides itself on its many accomplishments. Our department has organized many notable events, including the Highway 2 High-Tech conference, where students could get help finding work in tech, a hackathon in collaboration with Wingate Academic College (both events were cancelled at the last-minute due to COVID-19), and a start-of-year celebration with job-interview and CV-writing workshops.

The social reason
The Department of Software Engineering encourages collaborations between students and helps them create professional, large-scope graduate projects. Shenkar College organizes socials, conferences, fairs, and other events for and with our Engineering, Design and Arts faculties throughout the academic year.
The hybrid reason
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Software Engineering is considering a hybrid curriculum with remote and in-person components.
