Arab students opened the new academic year with a meet and greet
Arab students from the Faculties of Design, Arts, and Engineering met for a night of bonding before the beginning of the academic year, and heard about the aid and support options Shenkar has to offer.
"As a pluralistic academic institution, Shenkar believes any student, regardless of their ethnic origin, race, or gender, has the right to be educated in a safe environment", said Mr. Itzik Rennert, the Dean of Students. Rennert added that "the latest events challenge us. Fear and suspiciousness may be natural reactions but we cannot Accepted at Shenkar."
"We can’t control what is going on outside the walls of our institution”, Rennert told the young students, "but once you are at Shenkar, you are at home. We are all protected and we are all equal".
Nahed Ashkar, academia and student coordinator at the Center for Student Advancement greeted the participants and added: "we are happy to see you all here and we are certain that your integration process will be smooth. Your success is our success, we are here to listen and support in any matter you encounter during your time here".
Anes Mansur, representing the student union, and Safia Machmud, Arab student coordinator at Shenkar, also attended the successful event. After presenting themselves, Mansur and Machmud asked to know if the participants had encountered any violence or racism at the college and assured the students they will be getting the support they need.
HILA – the Center for Student Advancement at Shenkar – was established in order to support and promote students from different backgrounds and students with difficulties, and allow them to fulfill their personal and academic potential.
As part of HILA’s activities, students receive support according to their needs and acquire tools and skills that will help them in their studies.
HILA has an open space at the old library building, where students can meet, use computer stations equipped with special technologies, or the special study rooms, and the guidance and consulting services.
