From Shenkar to the USA: The International Ph.D. Track at the Department of Polymer Materials Engineering
Even as far back as a decade ago, a B.Sc. Polymer Materials Engineering from Shenkar was on the list of qualifications accepted by University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) for admission into its Ph.D. program. When Shenkar launched its master’s program in polymer materials engineering, it also started a collaboration with UMass Lowell, introducing a graduate student exchange program and mutual recognition of the qualifications offered by the two institutions.
The academic collaboration between the two schools includes a joint doctoral program, wherein students take the theoretical courses at UMass Lowell (with support from the American Friends of Shenkar nonprofit), and conduct their doctoral research at the advanced laboratories in Shenkar’s Department of Polymer Materials Engineering.
The department has a similar collaboration with the Department of Polymer Science at the University of Akron in Ohio, and one student has already completed a Ph.D. in polymer materials engineering through this program.
