Assistive Technologies

Assistive Technologies

Assistive technologies are important tools that facilitate, improve and optimize learning processes and test-taking for students with learning disabilities or limitations. HILA allows you to get acquainted with and practice using a variety of these technologies, guided by a staff member with expertise in the subject.

At HILA, there are English and Hebrew reader programs:

Hebrew text-to-speech: Alma Reader software plays back written Hebrew text:

  • Reading documents, online material, email and more.
  • Turns any document into an audio file (MP3), so you can listen to it anytime and anywhere.
  • Offers control of the reading rate and the type of voice.
  • The software is available for use and installed on all HILA computers.

English text-to-speech: Natural Reader software plays back written English text. Using software can assist and improve English studies, test-taking abilities (for those eligible for the accommodation of questions read in English) and reading academic articles. The software is installed at HILA and throughout Shenkar:
