Shenkar was founded in 1970 as the “College for Fashion and Textile Technology”, with the goal of qualifying skilled manpower for the Israeli industry, as well as providing it with advanced R&D services.
Dr. Nathan Brown, The first elected president of Shenkar, was the head of New York’s education system. He togather with additional professionals and experts came to Israel from the USA, in order to teach five disciplines: textile technology, production management, management and marketing, fashion design and textile design.
The first class of the college consisted of approx. 100 students, but the college has grown ever since, becoming a public college, recognized by the Israeli Council for Higher Education. During its 45 years of existence, Shenkar produced thousands of engineering, design and art graduates, enjoying incredible success in Israel and worldwide - many of whom assume senior and influential positions.
Today, Shenkar offers academic degrees in design and engineering and even joint PhD programs with leading international education institutions.
