Design, Technology and AI: End-of-Year Events at Shenkar

The synergy between creativity, artificial intelligence, liberalism and democracy has the potential to shape our future. The question is, will we succeed in building the momentum to propel ourselves into the intriguing unknown, and in empowering individuals within a more inclusive and prosperous society?

The Holy Trinity – Design, Technology and AI

Above all else, 2023 has been defined by the introduction of a revolutionary technology the impact of which is being felt in most areas of our lives, and academia is no exception. At Shenkar, connecting engineering and the design professions are at the core of what we do, and with the advent of freely available image generators such as Midjourney and DALL-E, and generative AI such as ChatGPT, the link between the two has become closer than ever before.

Design, technology and AI are mutually reinforcing, and therefore also impact industry and the labor market. This year we took it upon ourselves to conduct an in-depth investigation of the connection between them. Faculty and students learned together how these new technologies provide designers with new tools and resources that enable them to dream and create, and to invent and realize original, ambitious and complex ideas, alongside traditional industry. All of the above acted as an incentive for us at Shenkar to adopt artificial intelligence tools into the curricula of our departments.

2023 was also the year in which we were called upon to stand up for the values that we prize the most: democracy and equality – values that until now were perhaps taken for granted. It is these values that provide the framework necessary to foster creativity and free thought.

On July 13, Shenkar will host innovative, fascinating projects from engineering, design and art.

The works by our recent cohort of graduates deal with a diverse range of topics. They touch on future technologies, environmental development and social responsibility; they ask questions about identity, while simultaneously returning to the source and imagining tomorrow. Through guided tours, content events and interactions with the graduates, visitors will be given a window into the fascinating processes behind the unique graduate works from Shankar’s new generation of entrepreneurs, engineers, creators and artists.

The opening event will take place on July 13 at 20:00.
