STEP — Shenkar’s True Experience Program
In 2019, Shenkar established a groundbreaking internship program to bridge academia and industry. Incorporating hands-on industry experience (internships) with academic studies, the curriculum received the Council for Higher Education’s approval, and Shenkar’s True Experience Program (STEP) began under the academic management of Roei Zerahia, an entrepreneur and senior faculty member.
STEP consists of several internship courses that grant academic credits to participants, while also providing 120 hours of practical experience at leading companies (ranging from startups to international public companies). The goal of the internship is to open doors to industry for students during their academic studies.
STEP also allows students to intern at more than one company in the industry, thereby expanding their business network while studying!
Chen Attias, a graduate of the Department of Textile Design, says of the program: “During my third year, I did two internships at two major companies, and it was an amazing experience! Each of the internships opened new doors for me and I left with a skillset with real-life applicability and a job in industry that I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else.”

Our belief is that STEP enables students to develop industry connections, gain hands-on experience and significantly improve the possibility of finding a job that is aligned with students’ education. We also believe it will help employers find students with fresh, innovative approaches to boost their businesses.
The courses offered are open to Shenkar students in their third and fourth years from all departments, and are counted as four elective course credits for the Faculty of Engineering and as “trans-departmental” courses for the Faculties of Design and Art.
Internship course registration is conditional on pre-registration and a personal interview. Places are limited.
