Textile Design

New Specialization in the Department of Textile Design: Textile Products Program

Our challenging times require a new type of expert: designers who work in developing textile products, whether in industry or through tech initiatives. The Department of Textile Design at Shenkar is responding to this trend by launching a new program that supports the development of smart materials, fabrics with new functions and design of soft end products.

Through this program, the students will learn about design and development of textiles with application-oriented properties and how to design from a three-dimensional concept. During the degree, the students will encounter design for every aspect of life, from furniture and dolls to fashion accessories, shoes, bags and hats, to outdoor and sporting equipment, smart electronic interfaces and medical or security accessories.

The courses taught in the program include:

  • Introduction to Product Design
  • 3D Knitting – From Manual Machine to Industry
  • 3D Weaving Studio – Pockets
  • Advanced Structures Studio – Soft Product Design
  • 3D Modeling – Advanced Techniques in Layout, Sewing and Connections
  • 3D Printing Studio – Intervention in Textile Production Processes
  • Smart Textile – Soft Robotics
