AgeLabIL

Shenkar is proud to announce its newest academic lab, AgeLabIL, the first of its kind in Israel. This lab will be dedicated to research and development of tech solutions for challenges associated with ageing. AgeLabIL was founded in partnership with Design Factory Shenkar (DFS). The lab, which was set up and is being managed by gerontologist and tech entrepreneur Keren Etkin, offers a new academic track in which students develop innovative tech solutions that apply their design and engineering skills to challenges facing the 60+ cohort. In 2050, this segment of the population is projected to account for 20% of the population, and even today it is a market worth trillions of dollars. It is a target audience with vast economic potential and a surge of momentum in terms of development in the tech and start-up spheres.

The program is a combined interdisciplinary track for students in second year and onwards.

In the current academic year (2023/24), the track includes an introductory theory-based course and an option for practical experience in industry (summer semester, subject to interview process). There is also an opportunity for a related graduate project.

  • Introduction course (two credits) — introduction to gerontology as part of the Unit for History and Philosophy in first semester.
  • Internship course as part of STEP (four credits) in a summer semester.
  • Graduate project with a focus on “gerotech” (for fourth-year students).

Participation is subject to registration in advance, places are limited!
