Students in Reserve Duty

Students in Reserve Duty

In appreciation and recognition, and in accordance with the provisions of the law and Council for Higher Education guidelines, Shenkar offers accommodations and support for students serving in reserve duty or parents (of children under 13) whose partners are serving in reserves or who were called for reserve duty under emergency circumstances (Section 8) or in special circumstances at short notice (Section 9).

The Dean of Students is the recognized entity for managing accommodations, support and assistance for students on reserve duty through the reserve duty coordinator, who is responsible for:

  1. Informing students about their rights and helping them exercise them.
  2. Educating department/school faculty members in the rights of student reservists.
  3. Determining accommodations for students according to the institution’s instructions and in coordination with lecturers.
  4. Monitoring the implementation of accommodations and coordinating with relevant parties in the institution.
  5. Handling student complaints regarding accommodations that were not implemented.
  6. Coordinating between Shenkar and the IDF on requests to postpone or shorten reserve duty.
  7. Assisting students in any other relevant and related matter.

A student requesting accommodations arising from reserve duty should email the reserve duty coordinator and copy the department coordinator. A confirmation of reserve duty (Form 3010) of the student or their partner must be attached to the request. The confirmation must be presented no later than one week before beginning reserve duty. In emergencies or special situations, the confirmation may be presented no later than one week after completing reserve service.

Upon completing reserve duty and returning to school, the reserve duty coordinator and the department/school will try to ensure a smooth return and will provide assistance in making up material, postponing deadines, setting exam and submission dates, photocopies and printing, and authorizing absence from studies.

Shenkar will award two academic credits for reserve duty once during a bachelor’s degree, provided that the student served at least 14 days in reserves, not necessarily consecutively, during one academic year and on the condition that they did not previously receive credit for social engagement and/or reserves.

A bachelor’s degree student wishing to request postponement, shortening or cancellation of reserve duty for academic reasons may do so via the reserves website by submitting a request to the Reserve Coordination Committee. The website includes details on eligibility conditions and how to submit requests. You can contact the reserve duty coordinator for help submitting the request and obtaining a letter from the institution if necessary.

In the protocols for students serving in the reserves, you can find comprehensive information regarding adjustments and your rights. Students and reservists are encouraged to be aware and informed of them.
