General Overview

Shenkar College of Engineering and Design was founded in 1970, with the goal of serving Israeli industry in all that relates to academic qualifications and R&D services for modern industries.

Shenkar is an institute of higher education and, like all the public universities in Israel, is supervised and financed by the Israeli Council for Higher Education. Shenkar offers degree courses in all the subjects studied. Tuition fees are in line with the fees charged by Israeli universities.

Shenkar's uniqueness as an academic institution lies in the close ties between the two faculties:  the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Design. While both the faculties maintain their own special character, they operate joint projects, designed to expose the students to various disciplines.

The goal of the Faculty of Engineering is to provide a generation of engineers and managers who will influence the goals and processes of Israeli industry and business. The faculty aspires to be a center for the promotion of research and works closely with industry. This is done through the college's academic staff, which has at its disposal the Shenkar laboratories, workshops and centers all equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

The Faculty of Design has set as its goal the promotion of design and its contribution to society, commerce and industry. The faculty serves as a center for the academic study of design, with the most up-to-date, relevant and forward-looking courses, while cooperating with external elements from the world of design and industry.

Shenkar is the first academic institution to operate a wireless campus. This allows dozens of students who have laptop computers to communicate with other users and to access both the college's network and the Internet.

Shenkar has achieved an international reputation and is recognized as one of the best institutions of its kind in the world. Graduates of the College are able to continue on to further studies at universities in Israel and abroad.

Shenkar graduates hold key roles in commerce, industry and the defense establishment, as well as in R&D and the civil service. Among the graduates of the Faculty of Design are designers many of whom have earned an international reputation.

Studies at Shenkar are conducted in Hebrew. Overseas students are able to study at Shenkar if they meet the academic criteria and have a good working knowledge of the Hebrew language.

Entrance requirements

Requirements from foreign students are identical to those for Israeli citizens.

Applicants to the engineering departments must have full matriculation with an average grade of 85, and have taken the national psychometric test, that is held in Israel, with a minimum score of 620.

Applicants to the design departments must have full matriculation, and have taken and passed the special aptitude tests at Shenkar. They also need to submit a portfolio. Each department has different application procedures.

The matriculation certificates of applicants from abroad, to both design and engineering departments, have to be confirmed by the Israeli Ministry of Education.
