Professor Shmuel Kenig has won the top international award of the SPE for 2016

Elite international science: Professor Shmuel Kenig, Dean of The Pernick Faculty of Engineering and head of the Graduates Studies in Polymers and Plastics Engineering, was chosen to receive the top international award of the SPE - Society of Plastics Engineers, for 2016. The SPE International Award, considered highly prestigious in this field, was granted for the first time to an Israeli scientist.

"Kenig’s breakthrough research on processing of plastics and nano-technology in polymers inspired the industry and enabled advancement in these fields", wrote the award committee as they explained their choice.  

Professor Kenig, who founded The Department of Polymers and Plastics Engineering at Shenkar, earned his doctorate (cum laude) from The Faculty of Chemical Engineering at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Between the years 1985-1994 he served as an Adjunct Lecturer at The Department of Materials Engineering at the Technion, and since 2000 he is part of the faculty at Shenkar.

Prior to his return to the academic life, he worked in Research & Development in different industries and served as the Director of the Materials and Processes unit at Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

Over the years Kenig wrote more than 150 papers, delivered more than 120 lectures in international conventions and developed 18 registered patents. Between the years 1984-1986 he was president of the Israeli Society of Polymers and Plastics and was granted the award of Honorary Fellow for his contribution to the industry and the academia in plastics engineering.
